GPN Brasil | CELO ReFi | Citzen Science #1
This hypercert represents GreenPill Brasil’s commitment to advancing citizen science as a tool for ecosystem regeneration. Through our GreenGoods event, we brought together community members in Rio Claro, Brazil, to actively participate in the restoration of local biodiversity.
Participants engaged in:
Invasive Species Management: Clearing over 30m² of Leucaena leucocephala, a highly invasive plant threatening native ecosystems.
Native Tree Planting: Introducing six native and exotic tree species, including Ingá, Uvaia, and Jambo, to enhance biodiversity and soil health.
Data Collection for Citizen Science: Recording geocached observations of biodiversity and on-the-ground efforts to create a verifiable record of environmental impact.
The event served as a proof of concept for GreenGoods, an app developed in collaboration with Dev Guild to incentivize biodiversity restoration through on-chain rewards. Attendees earned tokens for their work, introducing them to decentralized tools while contributing to ecological restoration.
This hypercert highlights the measurable impact of the event, combining community action, ecological education, and technological innovation. It also marks the beginning of a scalable model where citizen science can be leveraged to drive large-scale biodiversity efforts in Brazil and beyond.
Metrics and Outcomes:
Area Restored: 30m² of invasive species removed.
Native Trees Planted: 6 new native species across the restored site.
Participants Engaged: Local gardeners and community members onboarded into the GreenGoods ecosystem.
Data Contributions: Observations of invasive and native species recorded for future biodiversity tracking.
This hypercert recognizes the role of citizen science in bridging local action with global regenerative finance systems, laying the groundwork for scalable, community-driven ecosystem restoration.
Acknowledgment:
We extend our gratitude to the participants and supporters who made this event possible, as well as the local community of Rio Claro for their enthusiasm and commitment to this shared vision.
